Details of Cooperation

The objective of this research is to develop a practical and well-designed bookshelf for parents and children by reusing disused textbooks as materials. In Japan, more than 70 million textbooks are supplied every year, and many are disposed of. Parents often become attached to items used by their children and hesitate to dispose of them, so we propose a practical way to recycle them while respecting this sentiment. Through recycling, we aim to reduce environmental impact, provide products that solve storage problems, and raise environmental awareness among parents and children.

Reason for Application

When I entered a technical college, I felt sad about throwing away old textbooks for new ones. 183.6 kg of paper and paperboard will be consumed per capita in Japan in 2022, much higher than the world average of 53.6 kg. Therefore, we are aiming to raise awareness of environmental issues by focusing on waste textbooks in the home. Children's textbooks in particular are unique. Instead of discarding textbooks as unnecessary, we propose to give them a new role and develop them for the future.

Future Plans

We will develop new materials using waste textbooks in late December; a prototype will be completed by mid-January, and feedback and improvements will be made in February-March.
