Details of Cooperation
Color blindness is a challenge faced by approximately 300 million people worldwide, and is associated with difficulties in a wide range of situations, from daily life to employment. Many approaches have been proposed to solve this problem, but they are difficult for people with color blindness because of their high cognitive load, intuitive understanding, and the time and cost required for social application. Therefore, this theme aims to develop a system that enables intuitive color discrimination by auditory and tactile sensory presentation, without changing the field of vision.
Reason for Application
I myself have color blindness and have had the experience of being rejected from the National Defense Academy, where I had applied to become a pilot, because I could not meet the color vision requirements. There are several people around me who have had similar experiences, and for many years I have wondered if there is a way to solve these problems. By a fortunate chance, I have been selected to conduct research on this theme at Nara Institute of Science and Technology University in the latter half of my doctoral course. Therefore, I have decided to apply for this grant in order to give my research project a tailwind.
Vision for the future
1. to provide the world with an unprecedented new means of acquiring a sense of color, in contrast to the current dominant idea of "correcting" color vision.
2. eliminate the distinction between "colorblind" and "normal" people in the world.
3. "Extend" the concept of color vision.
